Aftermarket automotive parts support is a challenging industry that is rapidly changing. Our partner on this project had components that were made by a small machine shop. The type of independent shop that is getting rarer by the day. As these components were modified versions of existing stock components, there was no print made or CAD created. Unfortunately, the owner of the shop that created these parts for our partner passed away, leaving no way for the part to be easily created by a new shop. ACS stepped in and recreated the component in CAD, produced 3d printed test-fit prototypes, and worked with a machine shop to get these made to fulfill customer orders. A final QC found that one of the tolerances had not been maintained. We went back to the machine shop and they reworked to correct the error and parts are now being shipped to customers all over the world.
